5 things to do before you leave your corporate job
When I became a VA in early 2016, I struggled.
Well actually I panicked, cried and flitted from one strategy to the next.
And even though it's easy for me to chuckle about those first few months of 2016 as a new VA (from the comfort of my established VA business 5 years later), at the time it was no laughing matter!
I freaked out a lot but I had no idea I should be doing things differently. But now I DO know and I feel like it needs to be shouted from the rooftops! So in this post I'm sharing 5 tips for all corporate PAs and EAs who are thinking about making the switch to the VA life.
That way you can have an idea of what you can do TODAY to make those first few months far more enjoyable than mine were!
First up though, here are the 5 things I did before I left my job:
Bought two programmes without thinking through how they related to the type of business I wanted
Signed up to a load of free classes (and was baptised into the world of 'free webinars' whilst ending up with information overload)
Spent weeks fiddling about with my website because I wanted it to be perfect (it still looked crap)
Got business cards printed (even though I wanted to run a solely online business)
Did a really great job at not telling anyone what I was doing
And here are the 5 things I could have done instead:
Had an honest look at my finances and saved a nice buffer to get me through the startup stage
Made a list of everyone I knew and created a tracking sheet to keep on top of who I was contacting and when
Got on LinkedIn and started connecting with more people
Created a very simple, 1 page website and been happy with that (instead of looking for perfection)
Told everyone what I was doing instead of feeling embarrassed and unsure of myself
