How to ace a discovery call

Got a discovery call booked? Congratulations!

Now the hard part is over, let's get you as prepared as possible. Here’s what I recommend you do before, during and after a discovery call with a potential client.

Before the call

Have a smooth process for potential clients to book their discovery call by using Acuity or Calendly. Include questions on the call booking form o you can find out as much information as possible before the call so you can do some research. You want to come across as prepared, professional and genuinely interested in their business, and a few minutes of research before your call will reap bucket loads of rewards.

A few days before your call, send a personal email saying you're looking forward to speaking, with perhaps a 1 page overview of you and your services (I cover how to create an excellent one in The Virtual Assistant Toolkit).

During the call

Explain how the call will go as YOU'RE the one leading it! Walk them through their questionnaire answers, ask leading questions and explain how you work and what you can do for them.

At the end of the call explain the next steps, whether that's sending your contract over to get started or a date you'll follow up.

After the call

Follow up when you say you will, even if you feel nervous doing it!

And follow up more than once if you don't hear back. You're running a business after all.

Hopefully you'll be popping the champagne pretty soon anyway :-)
