3 signs you’re ready to start a VA business

Wondering if you’re ready to dive in and become a Virtual Assistant? If you’re thinking any of the 3 things I share in this post, it’s probably about time that you do!

You find yourself daydreaming about it

Maybe it happens when you’re on the train to work and you daydream about what it would be like to decide where you work every single day.

Or maybe it’s when you’re given a piece of work and you’d rather poke yourself in the eye than do it.

Or maybe it’s when you drop your child off early at breakfast club, when you’d really rather do the 9am-3pm school run every day instead.

Whatever route your daydream takes, if you’re thinking about it a lot, becoming a VA is worth exploring further.

You want to work (but not for someone else)

Yes, I’m sure winning the lottery and quite literally living the dream would be your top preference. But given the odds of winning the jackpot are currently 1 in 45,057,474, it’s safe to say you’ll be working in some capacity. But it’s not any old job you want is it? You’ve been there, done that, and now you want to have the best boss ever - you!

You want to work and you want to work for yourself. You want to choose who your clients are, how much you charge them, what your working hours are and what’s a real priority for you.

You know you’re capable of a whole lot more

Job descriptions are great in many ways because you know what’s expected of you, but they’re pretty restricting too. Depending on where you work, it can take years to move up the ladder, add new responsibilities and get praised for working hard.

I’ve worked for start-ups AND established corporate firms so I’ve had experience of the 'get-stuck-in’ AND the slow burn of the corporate wheel. I’ve moved up quickly and I’ve moved agonisingly slowly, depending on where I’ve been. But who has time to wait around for someone else to give you the ok to try something new?

The great thing about being a VA is that not only do you get to pivot and take on different work whenever you please, but you also get paid for that immediately, without having to wait for a year end pay review.

One final note

If you’ve been reading my content for a while you’ll know that (in my humble opinion) you’ll never actually feel 100% ready to be a VA - in exactly the same way as new parents will never feel 100% ready!

The thing is, if we wait for everything to be perfect, we’ll be waiting forever.

And although I’m not suggesting you throw caution to the wind, quit your job with no plan and no financial buffer, I AM suggesting that you explore your feelings about work and do your VA research to see if it’s the best place for you.

Taking action is the antidote to not feeling ready, because when we actually do something about our dreams we get one step closer to them!
